Open Campus’09

Open Campus 2009 was held on November 11th, 2009 at NAIST. Visitors coming to NAIST were kids, students from junior high school, high school and college as well as their parents. In the event, we demonstrated our application named Emotion Visualizer. Emotion Visualizer displays beautiful graphics and emotional melodies
by processing acceleration data gathered from a sensor network; the sensor network consists of several sensor nodes manipulated by the visitor. So while the visitor shakes the sensors, the graphics and melodies’ rhythms change accordingly.
As a result, visitors from children to adults seemed to be enjoying themselves.

participating the relay race

On October 29th, 2009, a relay race was held in our university. This event is held every year
and all student and faculty from NAIST can participate regardless of their affiliation. The
event is highlighted by various handcrafted costumes and performance from each team. Teams
compete on a 10-lap race with one lap being around 1km long. Our laboratory took part in the
race as “TEAM IP LOVE” and ranked 19th among 39 teams that fought bravely for the win.

Science for Children Festival

From August 14th, 2009 to the 16th, an event called “Science For Children Festival” has been held at the Vocational Museum in Kyoto. During this event, we performed demonstrations of an application we made that uses sensor nodes equipped with acceleration sensor. Moreover, we explained to the parents how the future will become with the sensors and devices becoming smaller and cheaper.

Summer Boot Camp 2009

At August 10-11th, we held a seminar event, called as a summer boot camp. The summer boot camp welcome to be participated by undergraduate students and workers who aim to apply NAIST. Our course is participated by four participants. In the course, we made LAN cables, constructed a small network using switches and routers, and conducted trouble shootings. Moreover, we introduced our researches and student life in NAIST.

Travel to Syodoshima in Kagawa

We traveled to Shodoshima island, which is a small island located in Seto Inland Sea. Shodoshima island has various beautiful nature, for example, a ravine called Kankakei, and beautiful sea. In the island, we enjoyed grant view of Kankakei, sea bathing, fishing, BBQ, Soumen (thin japanese noodle), and so on. We also went to Kagawa, located in Shikoku island, and ate Udon (special products in Kagawa) as we like.

Spring Seminar 2009

In NAIST, March, 12-13th 2009, we held a seminar which is directed to college students and workers.
At our lab., we made LAN cables, constructed a small network using switches and routers, and performed troubleshootings.

Open Campas ‘08

In NAIST, Open Campus 2008 has been held at 8 Nov 2008.
Many visitors consisting of kids, junior high school students, high school students, and their parents came to NAIST.
In the event, we demonstrated our application, named Emotion Visualizer.
Emotion Visualizer shows beautiful graphics and sounds emotional melodies
by utilizing acceleration data gathered from a sensor node based on sensor network technology; the sensor node is grasped by a visitor.
So, according to visitor’s dance, the graphics and melodies changes rhythmically.
As a result, visitors seem to be joyful and happiness.

Travel to Susami in Wakayama

We traveled to Susami.
We enjoyed swimming in the sea, a barbeque and fireworks.

Open Campus for undergraduate students 2008

opencampus2008
The Open Campus for undergraduate students 2008 were held on May 24. Many students and prospective students visited our laboratory, then we presented our resarches, gave advices for an examination, and so on.

The measurement in Hokkaido

measurement
In the near future, wireless networks using long distance 802.11 technology
will be constructed. We then investigated network performance of
long-distance 802.11 link. In our experiments, we measured all metrics
on network, mac and phy layers to evaluate the network performance.

measurement
We needed a long straight line (more than 4 km!) for performance
investigation of long distance 802.11 technology. So, we went Ishikari
riverside in Hokkaido.
